Homeless women and violence are often referred together. There are many reasons why women are homeless. One of the main causes of homelessness in women is violence at home. Many homeless women ran away from a violent household or were thrown out. There are many homeless women blended into groups of homeless people all over America. Most homeless women often hide themselves. Many homeless women have children with them. They are sometimes referred together as homeless families. There are also money and grants for homeless pregnant women and homeless elderly women.

There are hostels for homeless women and there are also homeless shelters specifically for homeless women, homeless children and homeless youth. Homeless shelters for homeless women aims to provide safety for these women and keep them out of the street as well as setting them back on track to be able to take care of themselves. Each big city has its own housing for homeless women and children.

Homeless statistics show growing number of homeless women

Studies show that most homeless women are from poor families. Many homeless women suffer mental illnesses and are victims of violence. In recent years, homeless statistics show that the number of homeless women grows faster than the number of homeless men.

Studies of homeless women show that many homeless women have children who are not homeless. But, there are some homeless women who have their children with them as homeless families. Many homeless women stay in single homeless shelters while other are found living in both single homeless shelters for women and homeless shelters for families. Homeless American women are found all over big cities such as New York City.

About homeless elderly women

Homeless elderly women constitute about 15% of all homeless unaccompanied women, according to the 1996 study by the Urban Institute. You often see homeless elderly women in New York City carrying shopping bags containing all their belongings. More other studies on homeless elderly women found that almost 50% of the homeless elderly women (over 50 years old) had received mental health or substance abuse services. 40% of the homeless elderly women also receive Supplementary Social Security Disability benefits or SSD. Mental health problems as well as physical health problems are common among elderly homeless women.
