Homeless Families
There are many homeless families worldwide
as well as in America. Homeless families have one or more
homeless adults as well as one or more homeless children under
18. There are many reasons why families are homeless. Much
efforts are put in to stop the problem of homelessness for
families as much as for homeless children, homeless youth and
homeless people in general. There are many homeless families
programs that provide help for homeless families as well as
many resources for homeless families. Many homeless families
resources are aimed at homeless families with young children.
There are also homeless shelters for homeless families in most
big cities.
In America, an estimate of
as large as 40% of homeless people belong to homeless
families. However, data on homeless families is not always
accurate because the nature of homeless people and homeless
families is one that often escapes statistics. In 1996, the
Urban Institute's National Survey of Homeless Assistance
Providers and Clients or NSHAPC with its study of 16 types of
homeless assistance programs in 76 geographical areas shows
some homeless families statistics. The homeless statistics of
homeless families from this research show that:

-
34% of homeless service users were members of
homeless families
-
23% were homeless children
-
11% were homeless adults, parents of homeless
children.
Statistics show that homeless families often
remain homeless for a shorter period of time than single
homeless people. However, homeless families are also more
likely to become homeless more often than single homeless
people or homeless kids.
