Give Jobs to the Homeless
Whenever possible, a company should recruit
workers from among the homeless. Many homeless people are hard
and good workers and just need a steady job to get back on
their feet. Companies can find good help from a pool of
homeless people.
Employers can further help homeless people
who work for them by helping them
with accommodations and insurance. For example,
hotels can employ homeless people and offer them rooms at
minimum charge. Homeless people can also get insurance through
their employers, helping them enormously with medical
bills.
Homeless people in the workplace tend to
stay on the job or move to a better job. Employers need a
screening process to select only those homeless people who will
be good workers and employees. Sometimes, the wrong kind of
homeless people will be attracted to getting a job such as
those drunk homeless people or drug addicted homeless
people. This can put employers off and ruin the chance for
real hard working homeless people. As a first screening
process, homeless shelters can refer those hard working
homeless people to the interested employers.
Be patient with homeless employees
Homeless employees have different problems
from other employees. Employers need to be aware of the
problems and be patient with homeless employees initially at
the job. There are very hard working homeless people who will
be very good employees. Being patient with them will pay
off.
